This course is about the good life: what it is and how we achieve it. Using the tools of philosophical analysis, we will analyze concepts such as pleasure, duty, virtue, freedom, and responsibility. We will consider the respective roles that intentions, actions, judgments, circumstances, and understanding play in determining the good. By drawing on both classical and modern authors and applying their insights to contemporary life, this course examines the nature of moral inquiry and its standards of reasoning.
